John Zollo’s ESOP Plus® practice includes all areas of employee benefits law including qualified retirement plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, plan investigations, and IRS and DOL correction programs. A significant portion of his practice is devoted to ESOPs, including ESOP transactions and fiduciary counseling.
John advises clients on ERISA compliance, benefit plan tax-qualification issues, and investment matters. He advises board members, plan administrators, investment committees, trustees, and investment advisors on best practices to limit exposure to fiduciary liability.
John works extensively with 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), profit sharing, and defined benefit plans. He regularly advises clients on deferred compensation arrangements, including stock appreciation rights, phantom stock, stock options, as well as 409A and 457(f) compliance.
John received the Witkin Award for Academic Excellence in Pension Law at the UC Davis School of Law. He is a member of the ESOP Association and the National Center of Employee Ownership and is a regular speaker at ESOP conferences.
John is a graduate of Columbia University, Ohio University, and the UC Davis School of Law (law review).
